The good, the bad, and the South

Lena got a lecture on the importance of voting in local elections on Tuesday. I think she understood most of it. She was very excited about the “I voted” sticker at the very least. (Mommy? Sticker? Mommy? Sticker?”)
So Chapel Hill elects a democrat mayor, big surprise, (sort of, he only one by 250 votes.) And all is well.
Until bath time.
We have this little Noah’s ark bath toy, which we’ve had since I was a kid, and it has these little animals that you can stick together, so they’re like 2, right? (The ants go marching two by two, etc.) (Or you know, two animals to procreate.) So there’s an elephant, a lion, a rhinoceros, a horse, and a bear. Lena proceeds to pick up the bear and say,
And I say, “What did you say?”
And she says, “Bey-ah. bey-ah bey-ah bey-ah.”
It’s the CUTEST thing in the world. Seriously. I cannot impress how cute little kids are when they make one syllable words into two. But “Bey-ah”?? Seriously?!!??!
Of course lamenting this to my mom, she reminded me that for a while I said “chay-ah”
It’s the South. Can’t win ’em all.
Or, If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. Both of these would apply here.
